APT ECO Product Tankers

In May 2013 and June 2014, General Dynamics NASSCO entered into contracts with an affiliate of American Petroleum Tankers (APT), for the design and construction of a total of five 50,000 deadweight ton LNG-conversion-ready product carriers with a 330,000 barrel cargo capacity.

The 610-foot-long tankers are a new “ECO” design that offers improved fuel efficiency. The ships will be designed by DSEC, a subsidiary of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) of Busan, South Korea. DSEC’s “ECO” design achieves improved fuel efficiency through several features, including a G-series MAN ME slow-speed main engine and an optimized hull form.

All of the ECO-class tankers are being constructed at the NASSCO shipyard in San Diego, with deliveries beginning in the fourth quarter of 2015 and continuing through 2017.
