For the third year in a row, San Diego’s largest shipbuilding and repair organization – General Dynamics NASSCO – hosted its annual neighborhood clean-up just outside the company’s gates in Barrio Logan and Logan Heights, and Chollas Creek. Nearly 200 people participated in the event, including servicemen and women from Naval Base San Diego. The clean-up covered more than 30 blocks and included an earth-friendly craft station for the kids.
ABOUT
General Dynamics NASSCO has long been a committed member of the Barrio Logan and Logan Heights communities. In 1944, the company, formerly known as National Iron Works, moved its operation to its current location at 28th Street and Harbor Drive.
As part of its environmental and community stewardship initiatives, the company is heavily focused on reducing its consumption of resources, reducing truck traffic through the local neighborhood, recycling more than 90 percent of all shipyard material, and much more. Each year the company participates in many events throughout the neighborhood, and collects toys and gifts to distribute to local families during the holidays—a tradition since 1982.
