The Thomas Family
Ted Thomas began working as a pipefitter for NASSCO more than 11 years ago. Today, he is a Guarantee Material Coordinator with the company. Ted’s father-in-law, Phillip Runnels, was the first member of his family to ever work as NASSCO, and today, Ted’s daughter and nephew have joined the NASSCO family.
“Being with family [in the shipyard] presents a great opportunity to build stronger relationships with that family member. You have commons that will last a lifetime. NASSCO also provides opportunities for the future: family future + company future = success for both sides. GO TEAM THOMAS!” said Ted. He also adds that the best part about working at NASSCO is the teamwork, camaraderie, and constant sense of accomplishment.
Milani, Ted’s daughter, has been employed with NASSCO for a year and a half and appreciates the opportunity to work at the same company as her dad, “As I grow at NASSCO, my dad and I grow closer together.”
Ted advises his family members in the workplace to, “Be yourself, establish your own coat tail of success, and reach for the stars.”
Ted’s most important piece of advice to younger shipbuilders, including his family: “Come to work on time, do your job to the best of your abilities, strive for excellence, and go home the same way you came to work.”
